The armor role specializes in armored fighting vehicles. One of the main purposes of the armor role is to destroy the enemy to take and hold ground.
Tanks are mainly used for combating other tanks and killing lightly armored vehicles. Tanks are the main providers of ground firepower; they are a strong presence on the ground with unparalleled armor protection. The mobility of modern tanks allows them to pursue the concept of breakthrough and manoeuvre warfare.
Armored and amphibious transports are best used in conjunction with infantry role players. These vehicles are mainly used to provide fire support for infantry units and provide anti-air support for armored units. They are also highly mobile, which lets them aid units in fast paced assaults
The armor role is considered one of the best roles to use for rushing into a battle and for taking command points. The armor role is also best used in conjunction with the support role, mainly because of the support role's access to repair tanks and anti-air units.
The armor role logo is a shield, the same as the heavy tank icon.
Fires a HEAT Shell that is powerful against light armor but not very effective against heavy armor.
Defensive: Smoke screen
Launches smoke mortars that hide the vehicle from view. Lasts for 15 to 20 seconds.
Overview[]
The heavy tank is one of the most common units in most battles, but is by no means always the most efficient. While no unit has stronger armor or a more powerful main cannon, the high cost, low movement speed and inefficiency against enemy infantry ensures that this modern main battle tank will not completely replace the older, cheaper tanks on the battlefields. For tank hunting, however, the heavy tank remains the tank commander’s best friend.
The heavy tank can easily destroy any armored unit or vehicle. The heavy tank is also more than capable of dealing with infantry should the need to fight them arise. heavy tanks also have the ability to combat air units with the use of it's machine gun. Though not that effective, it does get the job done.
A useful combat facet of the heavy tank is its range: it can "snipe" vehicles and infantry from great distances without compromising its position. This makes squads of invisible heavy tanks especially dangerous to weaker ground units if they are within firing distance. Also, the HEAT can be used to kill individual soldiers akin to sniper infantry.
Although its primary armament is the smoothbore cannon, the tank features a coaxial machine gun which can engage infantry and helicopters in the vicinity. The damage inflicted by this machine gun is rather low -- as its incorporation into the unit design is presumably for aesthetics and detail for its own sake -- hence any consideration for elimination of these units, using this facet alone, would require an unnecessarily large squadron.
Medium tanks are one of the most versatile units in most battles, but they are not effective in doing one particular task. The medium tank is a very flexible unit on the battlefield, as it is able to engage infantry more effectively than the heavy tank, and can also combat ground vehicles. But it isn't effective at either task; the medium tank can often miss using it's anti-infantry ability, and a medium tank cannot withstand attacks from heavy tanks.
Abilities[]
Offensive: White Phosphorous shell (USA, NATO) or Frag-High Explosive round (USSR)
WP shells create deadly clouds of burning smoke, while the Frag-HE rounds simply explode. Both are deadly against infantry.
Defensive: Smoke screen
Launches smoke mortars that hide the vehicle from view. Lasts for 15 to 20 seconds.
Overview[]
Medium tanks are nowhere as strong as heavy tanks, so for this reason they don't fare well as front-line units. The medium tank also lacks the anti-tank missile offensive ability possessed by the light tank, so this further diminishes the medium tank's utility on the battlefield. The medium tank's offensive ability can devastate an infantry squad, but it is often difficult to line up a shot, and it's also somewhat rare to encounter a situation where this ability will be useful. The WP/Frag shell can also deal moderate damage to light vehicles, though it's difficult to hit moving targets.
While not as powerful as the heavy tank against heavy armor, the anti-infantry capabilities of the medium tank makes it good all-round unit. It can also use its speed to its advantage, as it is faster than a heavy tank and can be used to flank the enemy or hunt down enemy anti-aircraft units.
Light tanks are the fastest class of tanks. But they are also the weakest; they are incapable of facing direct hits from medium and heavy tanks, and their armaments can't even do sufficient damage to heavily armored units. They also need to flank units in order to do sufficient damage. But their special ability makes up for their lack of damage dealing main armament.
These weapons allow light tanks to do more serious damage to heavy armor.
Defensive: Smoke screen
Launches smoke mortars that hide the vehicle from view. Lasts for 15 to 20 seconds.
Overview[]
While the light tank won't stand a chance in a head-on engagement with heavier armor units, its low price and fast movement speed still makes it a useful piece of equipment in the hands of the resourceful commander. Due to its low price, a group of light tanks is the most efficient choice against groups of lightly armored vehicles. When fighting heavier armor, however, the commander should focus on flanking the enemy and using the light tank’s offensive ability to defeat the heavy tank armor – or simply avoid the fight altogether.
The armored transport is a good choice for armored commanders, who often team up with infantry. The armored transports cannon can also fire on helicopters. But, heavy tanks and helicopters can easily take out the armored transport, killing anyone inside.
Abilities[]
Offensive: TOW missile (USA), AT-5 Spandrel (USSR) or Sabot rounds (NATO)
The TOW and AT-5 are wire-guided missiles, while Armored-Piercing Rounds are alternate ammunition for the main cannon.
Defensive: Smoke screen
Launches smoke mortars that hide the vehicle from view. Lasts for 15 to 20 seconds.
Overview[]
This modern infantry fighting vehicle is designed to transport infantry to the front and then supply them with fire support. As such, the most effective way to use it is in cooperation with an infantry commander. Even when deployed on their own, their agility, armor and powerful armament still make them perhaps the most versatile units on the battlefield – able to engage every type of unit, even helicopters – although rarely the perfect choice for any one task.
Amphibious transports are capable of travelling through bodies of water. While somewhat slow, they are well armored against infantry and light vehicles. Heavy vehicles, attack helicopters and anti-tank weapons are the weakness to amphibious transports, so use them only when you need to travel across water or if you need to wipe out a squad of infantry.
Abilities[]
Offensive: MK-19 grenade launcher (USA), or High Explosive Incendiary (HEI) rounds (USSR, NATO)
The MK-19 targets an area, while HEI rounds add blast damage and fire effects to normal attacks. Both are effective against infantry and light vehicles.
Defensive: Smoke screen
Launches smoke mortars that hide the vehicle from view. Lasts for 15 to 20 seconds.
Overview[]
When all bridges have been destroyed and an amphibious assault seems the best strategy, a flexible tank commander won't hesitate to bring out these swimming vehicles. The amphibious ability comes at a price though – they are more lightly armed and travel slower than regular armored transports. When reaching the shore, their offensive ability gives them a serious punch against enemy infantry squads.
