Cuba is a socialist nation in the Caribbean just located south of the U.S. state of Florida. It supported the Soviet Union during World War III.

History

Cuba was a Spanish colony overseas. During the War of Independence that coincided with the Spanish-American War, Cuba, along with Puerto Rico, Guam, and the Philippines was given to the United States in 1898. The country became independent from the U.S. in 1902. Relations were friendly from the 1930s towards the 1950s. However, Cuba fell to communism in 1959, after Fidel Castro overthrew the Batista government. The new government became closer towards the Soviet Union. The United States immediately ceased diplomatic contact with the island nation.

In April 1961, CIA-backed rebels invaded Cuba in hopes to overthrow the Castro regime; this was known as the Bay of Pigs Invasion. The invasion failed due to the lack of air support. The following year, in October 1962, the world watched in suspense for 13 days as the United States imposed a naval quarantine of the island after discovering Soviet nuclear weapons during the Cuban Missile Crisis. Historians now agree that this was the closest time that a nuclear war was imminent. Eventually, it was agreed that the USSR would withdraw its nuclear weapons in Cuba, followed by the U.S. withdrawing its own nuclear weapons in Italy and Turkey.

Prior to World War III, Cuba-US relations would remain sour. The United States still maintained the embargo against Cuba. On the other hand, Cuba supported America's communist adversaries in Vietnam, Grenada, Nicaragua, and Angola. The United States would maintain a harsh policy towards the island nation. Due to the Anti-American sentiment imposed by the embargo, as well as the nation's alliance with the Soviet Union, Cuba would join the war on the sides of the Soviets.

World War III

Cuba enters World War II by occupying the Turks and Caicos Islands and attacking the Bahamas.

During the events of World War III, it is shown that the U.S. forces were fighting in the Bahamas and other Caribbean islands against the Cubans. Cuba is also shown to have occupied the overseas British territory of Turks and Caicos Islands. This was probably done as a distraction for U.S. forces as the Soviets attacked strategic targets in East Coast, like Norfolk Naval Station and New York City.

It is unknown if Cuba attacked it's neighboring countries, the U.S. territories of Puerto Rico, the U.S. Virgin Islands, Guantanamo Naval Station and the uninhabited Navassa Island. Additionally, the fate of Cuba after the Soviets were pushed out of Seattle is unknown.
