WiC Icon Armor Medium Medium tanks are one of the most versatile units in most battles, but they are not effective in doing one particular task. The medium tank is a very flexible unit on the battlefield, as it is able to engage infantry more effectively than the heavy tank, and can also combat ground vehicles. But it isn't effective at either task; the medium tank can often miss using it's anti-infantry ability, and a medium tank cannot withstand attacks from heavy tanks.

Abilities[]

Offensive: White Phosphorous shell (USA, NATO) or Frag-High Explosive round (USSR)
WiC Ability WP Round WP shells create deadly clouds of burning smoke, while the Frag-HE rounds simply explode. Both are deadly against infantry.
Defensive: Smoke screen
WiC Ability Smoke Screen Tank Launches smoke mortars that hide the vehicle from view. Lasts for 15 to 20 seconds.

Overview[]

Medium tanks are nowhere as strong as heavy tanks, so for this reason they don't fare well as front-line units. The medium tank also lacks the anti-tank missile offensive ability possessed by the light tank, so this further diminishes the medium tank's utility on the battlefield. The medium tank's offensive ability can devastate an infantry squad, but it is often difficult to line up a shot, and it's also somewhat rare to encounter a situation where this ability will be useful. The WP/Frag shell can also deal moderate damage to light vehicles, though it's difficult to hit moving targets.

While not as powerful as the heavy tank against heavy armor, the anti-infantry capabilities of the medium tank makes it good all-round unit. It can also use its speed to its advantage, as it is faster than a heavy tank and can be used to flank the enemy or hunt down enemy anti-aircraft units.
