The U.S. Sixth Fleet is the operational fleet and staff of United States Naval Forces Europe. The fleet worked alongside its European partners in training and exercises in the region.
During World War III, it engaged the Soviet Navy in the Mediterranean Sea. The fleet served as a blockade during the Invasion of France by protecting the French southern coast. However, despite its best defenses, the Soviets annihilated the entire Sixth Fleet and was able to penetrate the blockade and eventually land at the south of France.
